O65S LOSE 1-8 AGAINST HAMPSHIRE

After a long drive to Winchester, Sussex 65s  played their second match against Hampshire.  Comparing sides, it was apparent that this was going to be an uphill struggle against a more experienced Hants’ team.

Our Men’s third pairing of Martin and Paul looked as if we were going to take a game in a tough three-setter, never really got a look in in the final end and finally lost the game.  Similarly, our ladies second pairing of Pam and Linda also took their opponents to three and although doing better than the men’s, losing 18-21 in the third meant we had lost the match without the mixed being played.

Despite the poor score line the team put up a strong effort and Pam and myself lost in a three setter but our second pair of Janet and Martin, our Worthing wanderers, took their game two straight, albeit with 22-20 and 21-18 scores. Our third mix with Linda and Paul also was lost but a fair effort from all the team.

Not the best start to the season but with an identical home result against Hants played last season, and consistent with opening matches over past two seasons.  We now have to break that with a better result against Middlesex in December.

Final result: 8-1 to Hampshire
