The under 12’s are the foundation of county badminton and Sussex County Junior Badminton (SCJB) are excited to announce a new and innovative approach to engaging and developing young players across the county, whilst also ensuring badminton coaching is easily accessible to players throughout the county. SCJB is continuing to focus on the participation and development of these young players, as the cornerstone for all future County badminton. To this end, we are engaging with the Junior Clubs and Coaching groups across the county to form a stronger and more productive relationship between the county, clubs and coaches, for the benefit of the players and parents.
The aim is to provide a more accessible and cohesive coaching platform for the U12 players across the county, supporting the junior clubs and coaches, whilst also providing as many opportunities as possible for enhancing the players’ development and matchplay experience.
The U14 age group forms the basis of competitive badminton across the country and where Sussex County Junior Badminton first engages in the inter-County competition known as the “Shires League“.
The U14 sessions will focus primarily on technical skills development to ensure a solid base set of badminton skills are carried forward into the older age groups. This will build on the foundation established through the U12 age group to ensure U14 players are able to perform in competitive situations.
The U16 sessions will provide more balance between technical skills development and matchplay tactical instruction. This builds the players’ ability to analyse game situations and understand how to break down opponents to deliver improved outcomes. This approach will continue to build on the foundation established through the U12 and U14 age groups to further enhance the U16 players’ ability to achieve positive results in competition.
The U18 sessions will be focused on matchplay practice and tactical instruction. This builds on the players’ established technical ability to ensure they have the tactical knowledge and understanding required to enable them to perform at the highest level possible. This approach will continue to build on the foundation established through the younger age groups to deliver groups of players able to achieve positive results at the U18 and senior county levels.
