With what has been a very difficult season for all grass-root sports with lockdowns and Tiers, ESJBA have managed to return to play at all of their venues in Heathfield, Bexhill & Eastbourne. With so many dates cancelled due to the pandemic they have decided to extend their season and run on a weekly basis into June.They have taken on board all the updated guidelines by Badminton in England plus additionally having their coaches taking regular rapid lateral flow tests, they are eagerly looking forward to the April 18th . It is with great sadness that I have to inform everyone of the passing of Mark Allen. Mark was a true champion of all things badminton especially Sussex Badminton, Mark was vice Chairman of the County for a number of years and officiating, Mark was the current Chairman of the Badminton Umpires of England. Mark’s passion for the game was boundless. It didn’t matter what level the game was being played at, be it local club or the Yonex All England, Mark’s love for the game always shone through. Personally I will greatly miss his common sense approach to badminton matters and the clarity that he brought to the many discussions that we had. It’s always great to see young talent emerging at the Junior Championships and the event that took place over the weekend of 21stand 22ndSeptember was no exception. The first day saw the Under 12’s and U14’s demonstrate their skills with some fiercely determined competition. The U12 boys’ singles was won by Scott Hollingworth who also won the U12 boys’ doubles with partner Leonardo St Louis. The U12 girls’ singles champion was Ines Dobson who also took the U12 girls’ doubles title with partner Anniika Trygstad-Fleury. The U14 boys’ winner was Arjun Kolani, whilst the girls’ champion was Kathryn Ticehurst. In the U14 doubles events, Ryan Colcombe and Daniel Hitchcock won the boys’ and Amelia Roberts with Alice Fletcher won the girls’. The
The arrangements for this weekends tournaments at Portslade Sports Centre, Brighton are as follows: Saturday 21st September U12 and U14 boys singles arrive by 09:00 to start at 09:15. U12 and U14 girls singles arrive by 10:15 to start at 10:30 U12 and U14 Doubles will start approximately 13:00 depending on the conclusion of all singles events Sunday 22nd September U16 and U18 boys singles arrive by 09:00 to start at 09:15. U16 and U18 girls singles arrive by 10:30 to start at 10:45 U16 and U18 Doubles will start no earlier than 13:00 and will be dependant upon the conclusion of all singles events.
