Sussex Masters Badminton Practice Sessions

The practice sessions for the inter county league 2024/25 season will be held at the Portslade Sports Centre using both halls from 09:30 to 12:00 noon.  The dates booked are:  14th July 2024 28th July 2024  11th August 2024  The dates for team squad practice are: 8th September 2024  22nd September 2024. SCJB End Of Season Awards

Congratulations to everyone who was presented with medals and awards to celebrate the 2023-2024 season. It was a great evening and so nice to see so many people gathered together.

Malcolm Pratt

In memory of Malcolm Pratt - died 3rd June 2023 aged 88. Malcolm made a major contribution to badminton in Sussex, especially junior badminton and umpiring. Malcolm loved badminton and regularly played in the Eastbourne League for Rye and then Osborn Clubs. Malcolm became President of Sussex County Badminton Association in 2005, following the death of Tom Bowker. He remained President until 2012.  Malcolm was also Chairman of the Sussex Schools BA for 10 years, was the Schools representative on the county executive committee, he ran the Eastbourne Badminton Tournament for more than 20 years and he started the Triangular Team Junior Tournaments, affectionately known as 'Chailey' as that was where the matches were played. Rising Stars Tournament Details

The Rising Stars tournament is taking place Sunday 28th May at the Dolphin Leisure Centre, Haywards Heath, RH16 1 LY. Singles matches will commence at 9.30 and we ask that you arrive in enough time to be ready to go on court.  However, as we are using 7 courts and we have a number of singles events over a number of age groups, not everyone will play at 9.30, but once the tournament commences players will be expected to go on when they are called.  It is hoped that the Doubles events will start around 1300 but this will be dependant upon the length of the singles matches. O45s Division Victory

The 2022/23 season for the Sussex O45s county team has been a huge success!Winning all of their matches in the masters county challenge division 1B at Eastleigh taking maximum points to clinch the division!! The team has brought home some fantastic wins to claim top position in the south and east division of the masters county championships winning all of their matches. This now claims a spot in the finals weekend taking place on the weekend of 22/23rd of April in Birmingham. The core team this season has been Helen Milne, Mitsuyo Kondo, Jane Ashfold, Anna Prestwich, Chris Spice, Phil Troke, Ollie Smith & Zeyar Win. A special mention to Rob Kay, Michelle Barnett, Ian Wootton, Meg Brackley, Val Trygstad & Cathy Bargh

Vera Groves – Sussex Badminton Award!

The Sussex Badminton Award was presented to Vera Groves in recognition of her outstanding work as Masters Coordinator for Sussex badminton over many years. Derek Webb presented it in Portslade SC at an over 75 county match versus Dorset. The Sussex team players were Vera Groves, Wendy Arscott, Mike Stoneman, and Tim Kaye.
