Mark Allen
It is with great sadness that I have to inform everyone of the passing of Mark Allen. Mark was a true champion of all things badminton especially Sussex Badminton, Mark was vice Chairman of the County for a number of years and officiating, Mark was the current Chairman of the Badminton Umpires of England. Mark’s passion for the game was boundless. It didn’t matter what level the game was being played at, be it local club or the Yonex All England, Mark’s love for the game always shone through. Personally I will greatly miss his common sense approach to badminton matters and the clarity that he brought to the many discussions that we had. The county are once again recognising commitment to Sussex badminton and were delighted to welcome Karen Chapman to present the awards. Karen badminton CV is one to be admired... Represented the county 73 times National doubles champion in 1980 Won gold in doubles at the European individual event in 1984 Won two golds in the 1982 Common wealth games (Team and individual mixed) and also a bronze in the ladies doubles at the same event. In 1983 she won a bronze in the mixed doubles world championships in Copenhagon ...and 37 full senior caps for England. Not bad huh?!
